The Kitchen
Baguette and Butter's Guide to Cooking Simply: Section 1
How did this get so out of hand?
The concept of cooking has existed for many generations, but surprisingly, the kitchen and the equipment that rest inside of it are far newer than one may realize. Before kitchens, pits of fire were used to cook outdoors. Before refrigerators, larders, and the pantry, ingredients were stored in animal skins, gourds, and woven baskets. Running water and sinks within kitchens were not conceptualized until 1902. In 1911, City Dwellers had the icebox to preserve food in their kitchens, and refrigeration as we know it today would not be accessible until the 1940s.
